Pennsylvania FAQs 2018

A team's coach may contact the State event supervisor if they have a question. If there is no state event supervisor in the event please contact Dave Moyer at DMoyer@PASciOly.org.

Students with questions should address those questions to their coach. If your coach is unable to answer the question, then please ask your coach to contact the event supervisor.

Schematic diagrams

Posted: 2/7/18

An electric circuit schematic diagram is required that shows all electrical components in the device. The diagram must have correct electrical device symbols and all symbols must be labeled (with names of the components) to facilitate device review at check-in. Students must be able to explain the diagram and point to individual components. Student may be requested to make all components visible for check-in. This diagram is required for all PA regional and state tournaments. The schematic diagram will be worth 1 of the "chart" points. Other charts may not be substituted for this diagram. So any and all other charts are worth the other "chart" point. (Charts and diagrams are worth 2 total points.)

Optics

Adhesive

Posted: 2/5/18 - Updated 2/15/17

Tape or other adhesives may not be used to hold down your templates in the optics box. When you leave the laser shoot, the box must be returned to the same state you found it when you arrived. You may not permanently mark or change the box. Residues may not be left behind. An alternative to tape is to use magnets to hold down your template. If the box is not magnetic, they can serve as weights.

Optional Magnetic Bottom

Posted: 2/5/18

The optics box used at states will have a magnetic bottom. Some regionals may also use this method. Directions on how to make your boxes magnetic can be found by clicking here.

Optional Permanent Laser

Posted: 2/5/18

If you would like to mount a permanent laser in your optics box you can get some ideas how to do that by clicking here.

Mission Possible

Regional Impoud

Posted: 2/15/18

At the Regional Tournaments impounding is not required for Mission Possible - C. Depending on your region there may be an impound/storage area for safe keeping of your device. Once the device is brought to the impound/storage area students are NOT allowed to touch it until their scheduled 30 minute set-up time. Since this is not a formal impound, they may bring their device to the impound/storage area at any time without penalty. If you have any questions about the availability of an impound/storage area, please have your coach contact the Site Director for your region.
